Living with Terror

The next morning we headed south along the coast from Akko to Tel Aviv. We had to change buses in Haifa. Haifa is just south of Akko and this was the fourth day in a row that we happened to be at the central bus station there.

Later that day, a car bomb exploded just 250km from the bus station. Fifteen kilos of explosives ripped apart the Fiat Uno and killed its driver. This followed by twenty minutes another car bomb explosion in the northeastern city of Tiberias—also in a Fiat Uno. A passerby was seriously injured and the two occupants in the car were killed. We'd been in Tiberias just prior to Akko.

We heard this news the next morning in Tel Aviv - our hostel had a TV. Before hitting a cafe we picked up a copy of Ha'aretz. The front page included a photo of the carange in Tiberias - the mangled remains of the Fiat. I looked hard at the photo. Might this be the street where we'd sat eating lunch just five days prior?
