Much of my memory of China is of trains. Train culture in China is fascinating to observe and experience. Passengers keep their belongings in tidy plastic bags, and sip their hot tea from recycled Nescafe bottles. Shells of dried watermelon seeds blanket the floor. Broadcast radio programs and announcements, played too loudly, are used as wake-up alarms on overnight rides. The bathrooms...well, never mind the bathrooms. | ||||||||
