Xiahe, Gansu, is a remote Tibetan monastery town, the most significant outside of Tibet. From a distance, I saw brightly colored moving specs sweeping the lush green and yellow fields. Closer up, I noticed they were a group of monks playing soccer dressed in full monk garb! Beneath their robes, each wore generic Chinese cloth and rubber sneakers.
