This is merely the head of the famous giant sitting Buddha in Leshan, Szechuan. The Giant Buddha, or Dafo, is the world's largest stone carving, sitting 71m tall. Dafo was started by a monk who believed Buddha's imperious image would protect the boats from the perilous river waters below. His work was finished by two other monks, who designed an internal drainage system into the Buddha's robes and hair in order to reduce weathering of the masterpiece. | ||||||||
